The Adunctio Military has two branches: The Army, or ground forces, and the Aerial Navy, or the forces made of airship fleets. The Military is the most powerful establishment in the country; the politicians are only figureheads. To escape poverty or to leave where they are living, many young men opt to enlist in the military. They are good to their soldiers over all, although they are very strict.
Anyone who shows expertise and bravery on the battlefield is rewarded with a golden pocketwatch, the equivalent of a high military honor medal. Airplane pilots usually get this award, as their job is somewhat more difficult. There are airplanes and pilots stationed at the main base in Bostonia, and then there are those assigned to airships for instruction. Pilots on such airships may co-pilot with each other, and competition is fierce.
Any person manning the airship who isn't a Pilot or an Officer is simply known as a Sailor. Sailors have all sorts of jobs, but they are always handsomely rewarded and get leave and good vacations. On the other hand, usually the only women on an Aerial Navy airship are indentured servants. Stowaways are also constant because the military never kills them, only puts them to good use at work-- though they are often mistreated and fed less than well.
If your character is a militant, they can be stationed in a rebellious area, Japan, the Bostonia military base (also a training camp) or on an existing airship.
There's no shortage of weapons for the Military; firearms, airships, cannons and tanks, yet they keep developing new ways to conquer, a process hastened by the threat of war from the East. New technology is constantly rolling in, the most notable of which a radar which is fully functional, yet not installed in airships and planes yet. An informant leaked the existance of the radar to rebels and the Confederacy a few weeks after the radar's invention, and now many people are vying for the blue prints, as having a radar in ships would give people more time to prepare for upcoming enemy ships.
